Vaastu Shastra- the ancient Indian guidelines for building construction and orientation spread like a virus all over the country. As a result, Indian is now a Vastu crazy nation.  The actual reason for people being attracted to Vastu is its intangible features-its promise to give health, wealth, peace etc. Moreover, its promise to “keep negativity out” is the main reason of vastu gaining popularity in India.

People change the function of rooms in their houses. They demolish walls after walls. They would even change the structural layout as per vastu. They construct two boundary walls-their vastu consultant had asked them to. People even cut a full grown tree for relocating the storeroom because they want no financial losses. They would not sit under a beam-they don’t want the load of the entire world come on their shoulders.

The study aimed to verify the validity of Vastu principles in terms of its intangible features in order to find similarities in the life of people living in similarly oriented houses and variations in the life of people living in differently oriented houses based on common parameters like health, wealth, peace, education.

Some of the findings did match with the intangible features in Vastu Shastra. However, others did not. It becomes very difficult to take a stand at this stage. It is very hard to conclude if the intangible features do work or they do not. This study aimed at developing an approach to find an answer to the unanswered questions.
